History of French Luggage
Since 1946, Clarence French, the founder of French Luggage aspired to create America's
premier luggage brand. With his customers demanding the highest quality
materials and
craftmanship French's products defined the era.
"Some might say that we're out of step with an era that places
expedience above
perfection. Frankly we suspect they might be right. But going along with the
crowd has
never been our custom."- Clarence French
FRENCH 1946 represents a time when travel was an event and a privilege. Our
products are best known for their history of luxurious eye-catching fabrics and
design. FRENCH 1946 is renowned for high-quality, long-lasting performance and
its’ distinctive appearance; featuring exclusive fabrics, lightweight
construction and practical convenience. More than three hundred different
patterns have been created with many of them celebrating twenty years or more
of widespread popularity.
Gian Paolo Lombardo has restored the legendary qualities to the FRENCH name and
intends to transport the brand into modern times. Mr. Lombardo has been
designing and manufacturing luxury leather goods for over thirty years. Twenty
five years ago, Gian Paolo Lombardo began his association with French Luggage
when it was owned by Louis Vuitton. He designed some of the most technical and
elegant products for the company that are still being sold today. In addition
his company was one of the only outside manufacturers of Louis Vuitton in the
USA. With his great attention to detail, level of quality, and interest in
technology FRENCH will once again become a household name representing a new
chapter in the luggage industry.
