FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions
Q. Is French 1946 made in France?
A. No, FRENCH 1946 is named after it's founder, Mr. Clarence Lee French, who
established French Luggage in 1946 in Los Angeles. Mr. French created products for
people who had the taste and the means to demand the highest quality materials and
craftmanship. Many of French's earliest customer were celebrities from motion pictures
and politics.

Q. Why should I buy nice luggage?
A. For the same reason you buy nice clothes, drive a nice car and live in a nice house,
because it is important to know how the world sees you. Successful, discerning and
sophisticated, you enjoy nice things and can sustain them.

Q. Will the airlines damage the luggage?
A. Anything can be damaged of course, but good quality luggage is made more carefully
and uses superior quality materials that will last longer than inexpensive luggage. We
have on file customers that have owned their FRENCH 1946 luggage more than twenty
years and have claimed to travel more than 2 million miles with it.

A. Yes. You can clean your luggage as you would an upholstered piece of furniture

is how they originally produce the fine suede nap.)

A. Yes, at least within our ability to buy the fabric. It has always been our policy to
maintain an inventory of our fabrica and leather after the pattern has been dropped from

has that mills can no longer weave specific patterns for us but that us unusual. Some
of our earlier fabrics have been stocked for more that 25 years.
